Are there any future plans to widen Gordon Road?

Patrick Gannon

Gordon Road drivers, be patient.

The N.C. Department of Transporation is planning two projects on Gordon Road. One will happen in the next couple of years, but the other is still a long way off.

The first project will add a center turn lane along the entire stretch of Gordon from Interstate 40 to Market Street, said DOT division engineer Allen Pope. A contract for that work is expected to be awarded in September 2010.

But those who use Gordon Road will have to wait much longer for more more substantial improvements. A project to widen the road with additional lanes isn’t currently funded in the DOT’s long-range plan. That means it’s not likely to happen in the next five years, and it could be much longer than that.
