What is the connection between Leland and Abraham Lincoln?

Ana Ribeiro

According to the Leland Library, Leland’s Lincoln Elementary School, 1664 Lincoln Road NE, Leland [Map this], was named after our former president. The school, which opened in 1951, was an all-black high school until it was integrated in 1968. To read more about the school’s history, visit its Web site.

Leland’s Lincoln Road, where Lincoln Elementary is located, was, in turn, named after the school.

The original question asked why the name “Lincoln” appeared so often around Leland. We’re still tracking down other connections. If you know of any others, let us know!
