Do folks handing out parking tickets get paid more to issue more citations?

Chris Mazzolini
StarNews

Some motorists slapped with parking tickets might think the parking overlords get paid more money if they hand out more tickets, but that isn’t the case – at least not in Wilmington or Wrightsville Beach.

Wilmington Parking Manager Betty Gurganus said the city’s contract with Lanier Parking does not include incentives for handing out more tickets.

Wrightsville Beach Town Manager Bob Simpson said the town’s contract — also with Lanier — involves the town setting all fees, penalties, etc. There are no bonuses for handing out tickets, he said.

Excuse me but doesn’t that company get paid a percentage of every ticket they write or do they get paid a flat fee for the year?

If they get paid for every ticket then yes they DO get paid for writing more tickets, maybe not the person writing them but somebody is making money off them

Officials from Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach told us they pay a flat fee to parking contractors.

It’s funny how the Police will not ticket you on Dawson Street, because they have other more important task. If Park Wilmington wants to play police downtown then shouldn’t they be covering the whole city. So is it the job of the police to write parking tickets as the state law clearly states. State law clearly states the only person with the authority to write a citiation on a public roadway is a sworn law enforcement officer. So when were the ticket nazis sworn in? They want to play parking police but need them for a real urgent situation and they run away scared. Either be a cop or don’t play one!!!
