Are there any restaurants I can go with my dog?

Judy Royal

Is your dog your best friend? Do you go everywhere together? Then you probably know there are some places that just won’t let you bring Fluffy inside, especially food establishments. But if you stay outside, well, that’s a different story. The following are local restaurants with dog-friendly outdoor seating:

South Beach Grill, 100 S. Lumina Ave., Wrightsville Beach [Map this]

Caffe Phoenix, 9 S. Front St., Wilmington [Map this]

Bella’s Sweets & Spirits, 19 Market St., Wilmington [Map this]

Fat Tony’s Italian Pub, 131 N. Front St., Wilmington [Map this]

Firebelly Lounge, 265 N. Front St., Wilmington [Map this]

Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn, 4002 Oleander Drive, Wilmington [Map this]

El Agave, 3803 Oleander Drive, Wilmington [Map this]

Havana’s Fresh Island Seafood, 1 N. Lake Park Blvd., Carolina Beach [Map this]

Many restaurants that have an outdoor area where there is no food preparation or storage allow canine customers to accompany their humans, but don’t assume any patio is fair game. If it’s not on this list, it’s best to call ahead to find out before showing up with your pooch and being turned away.

UPDATE: As of 9/16/09, we’re told there is a sign at Flaming Amy’s saying dogs are no longer allowed on the patio.

Rita’s Italian Ice in Lumina Commons (Eastwood Rd.) and Long Leaf Mall (Shipyard and S. College – opening tomorrow) both have outdoor seating areas where you can bring your dog. Sometimes the staff will even offer your furry friend a frozen dog treat :).

You can bring your dog here and relax on our wrap-around porch! We provide a water bowl and we have doggie treats from Coastal K-9 Bakery which are inside and free, just like our WI-FI! 308 South Lake Park Blvd. Carolina Beach, NC
