Where are places I can play disc golf?

Amy Hotz

This post was updated in February 2011 with news that Kure Beach had opened its disc golf course.

New Hanover County’s Castle Hayne Park is the only park specifically designed for disc golf in the three-county area. As a matter of fact, to find the next closest disc golf course, you’d have to travel 42 miles to Northeast Creek Park in Jacksonville.

This is an 18-chainstar course through moderately dense pine woods. It’s gotten good reviews on www.dgcoursereview.com for difficulty and quality of course.

The rest of the park encompasses 50-acres off Parmale Road and also includes a ball field, tennis courts, soccer/football fields, playgrounds, picnic shelters and restrooms.

Directions: FromĀ  I-40, take Gordon Road exit and go north on N.C. 132 (College Road) three miles to a left on Parmele Road, then left on Old Avenue. Enter the park and veer right. Hole #1 is in the center of the loop near the gazebo.

i’m coming to myrtle beach the first week of august, and all my disc golf “friends” have suggested i make the trip to castle hayne to play this greatest of all sports. so i will be making the 64 mile trip to play the 18 hole course. and i will probably play a few rounds and get my moneys worth out of the drive.
