How do I find treatment for drug/alcohol addiction?

Addictions are hard to kick, and nobody knows that better than the people who treat them. If you’re looking for treatment in our area, Coastal Horizons Center, a nonprofit, is one of the places where you can go for help in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties.

It provides assistance to those who need prevention services, crisis intervention, substance abuse and mental health treatment. Call the 24-hour crisis line at 1-800-672-2903 or visit www.coastalhorizons.org for more information.

There is very little help for substance abuse/detox services in the tri-county area. In Feb. 2009 Southeastern Center for Mental Health closed its doors due to lack of state funds. It was a 12 bed inpatient unit that served the indigent, homeless, and the working poor who did not have Insurance for decades, 12 beds was NOT alot for 3 growing counties to begin with. Most other services in the area are outpatient services or private inpatient requiring Insurance. There were 3 allocted beds to Wilmington Treatment Center, a private detox center, to be funded by the state upon the close of SECMH. It is my understanding that those beds have now been eliminated as well.
