When is the N.C. Azalea Festival?

It’s the Cape Fear region’s biggest party of the year, and you’re invited. The 2009 N.C. Azalea Festival is April 1-5. It’s the 62nd annual, and you can be sure there will be plenty of blooms, belles, hoop skirts and Southern-style fanfare, not to mention a generous dose of grease and sugar from the food vendors who set up along Water Street on the Cape Fear River all weekend. Festivities include the queen’s coronation, concerts, parade, street fair, garden and home tours, celebrity appearances and more at various venues across town. Since its inception in 1948, the festival has blossomed into an extended weekend celebration that attracts more than 400,000 people.
